The Asanteman Association of Colorado is a non-profit organization consisting of Ghanians and other interested parties that live in Colorado. It is a registared 501 (c)(3) whose mission is to strengthen the knowledge of Ghanian culture within North America and use this bond to aid our people in Ghana. Thru fundraising projects we strive to educate our members and the community on healthcare and educational issues affecting the poor in Ghana and directly improve these systems by paartnering with other organizations to provide much needed medical equipment to needy hospitals and educational books and supplies to needy schools.
Swearing in Ceremony of Asantefuohene and Asantefuohemaa in Colorado
The North American and Canada Asanteman Associations with Colorado being a member was in the news recently as the city of Denver witnessed a memorableday on Saturday; September 5, 2009. All the executives members of Acona were also present.
It was the Swearing in ceremony of the Asantefuohene and Asantefuohemaa of Colorado respectively wuth their sub-chiefs present. The subsequent Kente dancewas also held the following day as part of the celebrations of the occasion.
The name of the chief is; Nana Wiafe Anane known in private life as Peter Afriyie,Queenmother; Nana Adwoa Serwaa Ampem also known in private life as Mary Nana Adusei. The event was well attended by many Denver residents and its surrounding areas. In attendance were all the Asantefuo chiefs in North America and Toronto. Hiplife artiste; Krontihene aka Emmanuel Appiah) from Ghana entertained the gathering.
Gracing the occasion was Nana Tepahene; Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem who was Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Ashanti King's representative from Ghana and was accompanied by; Nana Barfuor, Mawerehene from Ghana.
Dr Sam Desouza and his wife chaired the Kente dance event.
Kete group from Ohio Columbus also entertained the gathering. The Chief of Mfantseman and the Ga Mantse in Denver also attended.
A presentation was also made on Sunday to Claire Cunningham Director of Corprrate Development of PROJECT C.U.R.E. by Nana Tepahene Otumfuo represntative for the role project C.U.R.E. is playing in Ghana.They are sending medical equipment worth millions of dollars to the health sectors in Ghana. Through the hard work of project cure, they invited Ghana's first Lady to Denver for fund Raising in July. All the proceeds realised will help ship medical equipment to Ghana.
Nana Adusei charged those present to uphold unity and also not to forget that our associations should unite and leave a legacy that our future generations can build on.
The MCs for the occasion were; David Osei Antobere ( Denver) and Okyeame Essa Mensah (Acona PRO.)
The keynote address by Dr Wazir put an emphasis on empowerment as demonstrated by President Barack Obama.
